Hunch consumer health data privacy policy
Hunch is published by Kipina Labs LLC, a Georgia, USA company. This page is Hunch's consumer health data privacy policy, written for Washington's My Health My Data Act (RCW 19.373) and Nevada's consumer health data law (SB 370, NRS Chapter 603A). Hunch's privacy policy covers everything else. This page is a plain-words description of what Hunch does. It isn't legal advice.
In short: Hunch reads your health data from Apple Health on your iPhone, only after you agree, to show you your own trends and test results. Kipina Labs doesn't receive it. Hunch has no servers, no analytics and no third-party SDKs, and it shares your health data with no one. It leaves your iPhone only if you share a PDF report yourself.
Why this page exists
Hunch is built so that Kipina Labs never collects, shares or sells consumer health data. We publish this policy anyway so it's clear, including in case a law treats an app's work on your own device as the publisher's. It applies to everyone who uses Hunch, whether or not they live in a state with such a law.
What health data Hunch handles, and why
Everything here is handled on your iPhone. Hunch reads a type from Apple Health only after you agree on its consent screen and allow that type in Apple's permission sheet.
- From Apple Health: sleep; heart rate, resting heart rate and heart rate variability; respiratory rate and blood oxygen; steps and active energy; weight and blood glucose; and water, caffeine, alcohol and food energy that other apps save there.
- What you tell Hunch: your tags for a day (such as alcohol, a late meal, a stressful day, travel or feeling unwell), whether you stuck to an experiment's plan, the experiments you run, and your settings.
- What Hunch works out from those, on your iPhone: recovery and stress estimates, effort and bedtime targets, comparisons with your own usual numbers, and experiment results.
A short summary of today's numbers (your recovery score, today's targets, the effort so far and when it was made) is also kept in storage that Hunch shares with its widgets, on your iPhone.
Hunch uses this data for one purpose: to show you these numbers and results, and to make a PDF report if you ask for one. It isn't used for advertising, profiling or anything else.
This version of Hunch doesn't read blood pressure or heartburn data, and it doesn't save anything to Apple Health. If a later version reads or writes another kind of health data, we'll update this page first, and the app will ask you again before it reads anything new.
Where the data comes from
Only two places: Apple Health on your own iPhone (data your watch, ring, phone and other apps saved there), and what you tap or enter in Hunch. Hunch doesn't get health data from anyone else, such as data brokers, and Kipina Labs doesn't receive any from your devices.
What is shared, and with whom
Categories of consumer health data shared: none.
Third parties and affiliates it is shared with: none.
Kipina Labs doesn't sell consumer health data, doesn't share it, and doesn't use your location in any way. Some things are worth knowing:
- If you choose to share a PDF report, Hunch creates it on your iPhone and opens the share sheet. It goes only where you send it, such as Mail, Messages, Files or AirDrop. Kipina Labs never receives it. Hunch deletes its own copy of the report afterwards.
- Purchases are handled by Apple. Hunch learns only whether you have Hunch Pro, never your payment details.
- If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, the backup includes Hunch's data, as it does for other apps. Kipina Labs can't access your backups.
Your rights, and how to use them
You have the right to confirm whether your consumer health data is collected, shared or sold; to see it; to withdraw your consent; and to have it deleted. Because Hunch keeps your data only on your iPhone, you can do most of this yourself, right away, in the app:
- Confirm and access: Hunch's screens show everything it holds about you, and Settings → Your health data shows whether you have agreed and the date you did. Kipina Labs holds none of it.
- Withdraw consent: Settings → Your health data → Withdraw consent. Hunch stops reading Apple Health at once and clears the numbers in its widgets. To also remove Hunch's access inside Apple Health, open the Settings app → Health → Data Access & Devices → Hunch.
- Delete: Settings → Delete all my data removes your experiments, check-ins, tags, settings, widget numbers, report PDFs and your consent record from your iPhone, and starts Hunch over. Deleting the app does the same. Data in Apple Health is yours and stays there until you delete it in the Health app.
You can also email support@kipinalabs.com to ask any of these. We'll reply as soon as we can, and always within 45 days. Since we hold no copy of your data, we'll explain how to do it in the app.
If you disagree with our answer
If we turn down a request, we'll tell you why. You can appeal by replying to that email, and we'll answer the appeal within 45 days. If you're still not satisfied, you can contact your state's Attorney General: for Washington, the Washington Attorney General's Office; for Nevada, the Nevada Attorney General's Office.
Children
Hunch isn't directed at children under 13.
Not medical advice
Hunch is a wellness app, not a medical device. It doesn't diagnose or treat anything. Talk to your doctor before changing any treatment.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If the change adds a kind of health data or a new purpose, Hunch will ask for your consent in the app first.
